TITLE: Teachers- Emotionally Impaired, Mentally Impaired, and Learning Disabled
DEFINITION: Teach basic academic and living skills to students with emotional or mental impairments or learning disabilities.
TASKS:
1. Teaches socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
2. Instructs students, using special educational strategies and techniques to improve sensory-motor and perceptual-motor development, memory, language, and cognition.
3. Instructs students in academic subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques, such as phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition, to reinforce learning.
4. Instructs students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and economic self- sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and food preparation.
5. Plans curriculum and other instructional materials to meet student's needs, considering such factors as physical, emotional, and educational abilities.
6. Selects and teaches reading material and math problems related to everyday life of individual student.
7. Administers and interprets results of ability and achievement tests.
8. Confers with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers and others to develop individual educational plan for student.
9. Confers with other staff members to plan programs designed to promote educational, physical, and social development of students.
10. Works with students to increase motivation.
11. Provides consistent reinforcement to learning, and continuous feedback to student.
12. Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on progress of students.
13. Meets with parents to provide support, guidance in using community resources, and skills in dealing with student's learning impairment.
