TITLE: Cannery Workers
DEFINITION: Perform any of a variety of routine tasks in canning, freezing, preserving, or packing food products. Duties may include sorting, grading, washing, peeling, trimming, or slicing agricultural produce.
TASKS:
1. Sorts or grades products according to size, color, or quality.
2. Trims, peels, and slices products with knife or paring tool.
3. Feeds products into processing equipment, such as washing, refrigerating, peeling, coring, pitting, trimming, grinding, dicing, cooking, or slicing machines.
4. Fills containers, using scoop or filling form, or packs by hand.
5. Dumps or places food products in hopper, on sorting table, or on conveyor.
6. Feeds empty containers onto conveyor or forming machines.
7. Places filled containers on trays, racks, or into boxes.
8. Counts, weighs, or tallies processed items according to specifications.
9. Inspects and weighs filled containers to ensure product conforms to quality and weight standards.
10. Loads, moves, or stacks containers by hand or handtruck, and cleans glass containers, using airhose.
