TITLE: Security Managers
DEFINITION: Plan, direct, and coordinate implementation of security procedures, systems, and personnel to protect private or public property and personnel from theft, fire, and personal injury.
TASKS:
1. Inspects premises to determine security needs, test alarm systems and safety equipment, or detect safety hazards.
2. Analyzes security needs, plans and directs implementation of security measures, such as security or safety systems, and estimates costs of operation.
3. Develops and establishes security procedures for establishment or for protection of individual, group, or property.
4. Confers with management to determine need for programs and to formulate and coordinate security programs with establishment activities.
5. Directs activities of personnel in developing, revising, or updating company security measures, to comply with federal regulations.
6. Confers with client regarding security needs, evaluation of services, or problems with security systems.
7. Assigns workers to shifts, posts, or patrol, according to protection requirements or size and nature of establishment.
8. Interviews and hires security workers.
9. Observes workers' performance of duties to evaluate efficiency and to detect and correct inefficient or improper work practices.
10. Trains workers in security operations, such as detecting and apprehending intruders or shoplifters, first aid, or fire safety.
11. Conducts background investigation of job applicants or employees to obtain information such as personal histories, character references, or wage garnishments.
12. Monitors or supervises monitoring of alarm system controls and investigation of alarm signals.
13. Conducts or directs surveillance of premises or suspects.
14. Interprets company policies and procedures for workers.
15. Studies federal security regulations, and consults with federal representatives for interpretation or application of particular regulations to company operations.
16. Responds to calls from subordinates to direct activities during fires, storms, riots, and other emergencies.
17. Prepares reports concerning investigations, security needs and recommendations, or security manual of procedures.
18. Investigates crimes committed against client or establishment, such as fraud, robbery, arson, or patent infringement.
19. Confers and cooperates with police, fire, and civil defense authorities to coordinate activities during emergency.
20. Contacts business establishments to promote sales of security services.
