54 OCCUPATIONS IN PROCESSING OF PETROLEUM, COAL, NATURAL AND MANUFACTURED GAS, AND RELATED
PRODUCTS
This division includes occupations concerned with the post-extraction phases involved in preparing
for commercial use the products of oil shales, oil and gas wells, and coal mines. Includes preparing
and refining petroleum and recovering refinery byproducts; manufacturing asphalt and tar paving
mixtures and blocks and asphalt felts and coatings; preparing and manufacturing gaseous, liquid, and
solid fuels including coke, coke-oven byproducts, and commercial gas; and processing tars for the
chemical industry. Occupations concerned with treating wood are included in Division 56.
