TITLE(s): TOWER OPERATOR (r.r. trans.) alternate titles: signal-tower operator Operates switching equipment in control tower to route train traffic in railroad yard or at switching point, following switching orders, train schedules, and safety regulations: Reads switching orders and schedules of inbound and outbound traffic to ascertain time trains will enter or leave yard, sequence of movement, and tracks on which trains are to be routed. Observes approaching trains and moves switches on control panel to set traffic signals and to activate track switches that regulate traffic. Receives and transmits switching orders by telephone or telegraph.
