TITLE: Woodworking Machine Setters and Set-Up Operators, Except Sawing
DEFINITION: Set up or set up and operate woodworking machines, such as lathes, drill presses, sanders, shapers, and planing machines, to perform woodworking operations. Exclude sawing machine setters and set-up operators.
1. Installs knives, sanding apparatus, cams, cutting heads, bits, chisels, and blades, using hand tools.
2. Attaches and adjusts guides, stops, clamps, chucks, and feed mechanisms, using hand tools.
3. Starts machine and feeds stock into machine through feed mechanisms or conveyors.
4. Monitors operation of automatic machines and makes adjustments as needed to correct problems and ensure conformance to specifications.
5. Examines blueprints, drawings, and work orders, to determine characteristics of finished item, materials to be used, and machine setup requirements.
6. Adjusts machine table or cutting devices to produce specified cut or operation.
7. Pushes or holds workpiece against, under, or through cutting, boring or shaping mechanism.
8. Selects knives, sanding apparatus, cams, cutting heads, bits, chisels and blades.
9. Mounts or clamps stock onto machine.
10. Removes and replaces worn machine parts, knives, bits, belts, and sandpaper.
11. Examines workpiece visually, by touch, or using tape rule, calipers, or gauges to ensure product meets desired standards.
12. Unclamps and removes workpiece from machine, and stacks workpiece on pallet or in box.
13. Sharpens knives, bits, and other cutting and shaping tools.
14. Cleans product, machine, or work area, using rags and air hose.
