OVERCOIL HAIRSPRING; OVERCOILING

    OVERCOIL HAIRSPRING; OVERCOILING Hairspring of a watch with its outer coil raised above plane of spring and then bent so as to terminate in a curve that is concentric with remaining coils. Purpose is to provide for concentric winding and unwinding of spring thereby eliminating side thrust against bearings. Overcoiling is the act of bending outer coil.
