    IN-BEAT Characteristic of timepiece movement resulting from jewel pin being in line of center on ESCAPE WHEEL, pallet, and balance wheel when hairspring is unstressed. In this condition the strokes of the escape wheel teeth against pallet stones will occur at equal intervals. A timepiece is out of beat when strokes or ticks occur at unequal intervals.
